Hi {{ first name | reader }},

The cool thing about being the dad of young kids

Is that you experience things you wouldn’t choose or get to choose to do

Like handling a rattlesnake.

It was safe and the snake was contained and all the boys (including me) enjoyed the presentation

What was fascinating was the science

Evidently rattlesnakes shed after a set number of years

And ever shed adds another rattle, or bead, to their tail

Which is how you can know how old a snake is

And how much life they have experienced 🐍

A HYSA or a High Yield Savings Account allows you to get many times more interest on the money you’ve got over the average bank or credit union savings.  If you’re an independent creator, freelancer, or entrepreneur like me, then you know our money often comes in lump sums, like we could get a book deal advance and have to live on it for like a year! So it is super important we put our short-term money in an accessible place where it can compound. I’ve recently gotten more focused on my finances, learned about HYSAs, and got a couple accounts.

To choose the best ones for me, I first asked my mentors and loved ones. Then I went to Bankrate, the folks supporting this show. They have an up to date list of all the reputable HYSAs with pros and cons, FDIC or similar insurance backings, and the current rate. It was simple to see which HYSA fit me best - and it is all free. Me and my closest friends are now middle aged

We talk about random body quirks that happen now

Laugh at the difficult things that we thought were hard at the time

And pause when we all remember a moment that happened many, many rattles ago.

Snakes have to shed

As do crabs and other creatures.

They need to stop everything

And pause to survive the next cycle.

But we, we are not forced to shed

We have the option of carrying that tight, dead weight

Until we are dead.

So pausing to honor your rattles comes from a place of strength

Slowing down to shed, to cry, to mourn is an act of self love

Honoring our own growth is power

But we have to choose to do it 🦀
