Hi {{ first name | reader }},
Not too long ago
I was on an international flight
Like a loooooong one
We’re talking double digits of hours
And I wanted to carry on the art and cool stuff I got
I’m not going to check this precious stuff in!
So I took all my usual carry ons
And stuffed them into my already heavy suitcase
So it was just me, my phone, and my art
But when I went to board
They said it was too big
I had to check them in.
So it was multiple hour flights
With no extra snacks
No books to read
Just me, myself, and I ✈️

When you think about it
In every hero’s journey
There’s inevitably
The leaving behind.
The ruby slippers were a ruse.
The force wasn’t dependent on others.
The ring needed to be destroyed to recognize the power within.
The fact is that we can’t enter every opening
When we got baggage on our hips
Trunks we’re dragging along
Dead weight we
Consider flesh.
How many doors did you think weren’t for you
When they just couldn’t support the bags you were carrying? 🧳

Sure, we can glamorize being famous owning lots of things and being well respected, but it isn’t going to solve all your problems
Depending on your own issues:
🫠 Your sudden attention may make your insecurities worse
🤔 You may forget why you do what you do in the first place
😵💫 You may be surrounded with people who are with you for the wrong reasons
Creating a scrappy, simple creative practice is usually the closest you’ll get to artistic fulfillment and joy. Here are legendary comedian Richard Pryor and icon Arsenio Hall explaining why.
