As Soon As...

Hi reader,
There have been a ton of conversations recently about non-voters.
Folks that opt out because the choices aren’t good enough.
As soon as someone worth electing is on the ballot, they’ll participate.
It reminds me of being young and broke traveling to Japan or to France or to Spain.
Telling older folks when I got back happy and (still) broke about my adventures and they said they long planned to go, too.
As soon as the money improved, the kids got in school, the next thing was done, they’d go.
And now they were now unable to go 🛑
Get Your Team Booked on 3.8 Million Podcasts Automatically
It's 2025. Want to finally be a regular podcast guest in your industry? PodPitch will make it happen. Even the beehiiv team uses it!
The best way to advertise isn't Meta or Google – it's appearing on podcasts your customers love.
PodPitch.com automates thousands of weekly emails for you, pitching your team as ideal guests.
Big brands like Feastables use PodPitch.com instead of expensive PR agencies.
I love how wise and beautiful and articulate you are. I can say that with confidence.
I’ve met many of y’all through BringYourWorth.tv or through journalism conferences or on my keynote or book tours, or through coaching. The BringYourWorth audience is amazing.
We can also be too smart for our own good - myself included.
It reminds me of my favorite line from one of my favorite songs, “What a Fool Believes” by The Doobie Brothers (shout out to songwriter Kenny Loggins):
What a fool believes he sees
The wiseman has the power to reason away
The more I get older, the more I realize that a brighter life, a stronger union, a better you is always within our grasp.
Assuming we don’t reason it away 💨
Fact-based news without bias awaits. Make 1440 your choice today.
Overwhelmed by biased news? Cut through the clutter and get straight facts with your daily 1440 digest. From politics to sports, join millions who start their day informed.
Does this mean abandoning all your responsibilities and, as I say in The Bite-Sized Entrepreneur, finally running away to the circus?
Absolutely not.
But when we say “As soon as…”, it usually doesn’t signify a deadline or even a commitment.
It usually means we want to let ourselves off the hook.
Word to Seth Godin.
Because “As soon as…” is one of those lines in the sand that can easily be wiped away by the waves.
Instead, what if you had to do it today?
You may not need as many resources as you think.
You may recognize that you can get started right away.
As soon as you feel like it 🌱
🚨 FINAL CALL 🚨
One of the resources I wish I had when I started writing (cough) decades ago was the Institute for Independent Journalists. I’ve known founder Katherine Reynolds Lewis for almost as long as I’ve been freelancing and have loved her new, inclusive take on what defines good, important journalism.
And the Institute for Independent Journalists is having its 2025 live, online freelance conference on Feb. 27-28!
Here’s the breakdown: Engage in 12 information-packed, interactive sessions on pitching, harnessing artificial intelligence, funding your journalism, podcasting, boosting your income, and more. On day one, keynote speaker and author Celeste Headlee will share her experiences working in mainstream media (NPR, PBS, WNYC), as well as independently. Learn directly from editors what they want in a pitch, including from Bloomberg, the New York Times, Washington Post, Economic Hardship Reporting Project, and more. Fellowship directors will explain how to get funding for an important journalism project. The best way to weather a storm is together.
Sign up now for 12 live, interactive sessions, delivering 15 hours of learning. Sign up now and get instant access to a bonus bundle with four recorded full-length editor panels, three recorded interviews with freelance experts and New York Times opinion editor Katie Kingsbury, a layoff recovery guide, tip sheets, freelance checklists, an income tracking worksheet and more.
And BringYourWorth.tv viewers get an exclusive discount! Register here and use the promo code DAMON to get an immediate price off the already early bird cost.

As you’ve seen in recent BringYourWorth.tv episodes, my office has been stacked with books lately! Shortform is one of my favorite companions for understanding books quickly and remembering the highlights from classics I may have forgotten. The service goes well beyond summaries, giving serious breakdowns, analysis, arguments, and even overarching themes connecting a book to other pieces of literature. It also showcases material related to your favorite book, like popular podcasts, articles and more. Shortform is a great way to sample new books you’re curious about or to go deeper on ones you already know super well.
