Hi reader,
How do you serve your community?
Not community service or even activism. I mean, the people you provide a product or service for?
Back when I was a freelance journalist cutting my teeth, I thought I was serving the person paying me: The fledging newspaper, the international magazine, or the growing website.
It didnโt take long for me to realize that the publication was just the catalyst to reach who I was really serving: The hip-hop head who needed a trusted voice, the tech fan that wanted to understand the next wave, or the overlooked cultural leader searching for an accurate representation of their movement.
The medium wasnโt the message, and the message wasnโt about me. It was about the zeitgeist I was trying to capture.

This framing of being a megaphone for the under respected, voiceless, or misunderstood has helped me bridge community and commerce easier.
For instance, supporting side hustlers, solopreneurs, and other non-traditional entrepreneurs means Iโm always in your corner (community).
It means turning away opportunities that arenโt going to serve you (community over commerce).
But it means you knowing that when I share something, it is in the best interest of the greater movement (community supporting commerce).
It means trust.
And with that trust comes the support to keep doing what Iโm doing.
You may have noticed sponsors coming through here and some of my other content. I believe each fits the Bring Your Worth community and maybe even specifically you. But that understanding only comes over time.
And Iโm excited to pull back the proverbial curtain on how it works.
On todayโs #BringYourWorth live, Iโll share ways to get sponsors, suggestions to build up an audience, and answer questions youโve got on getting started.
