Embrace the pause ⏸️

Hi reader,
How does the second half of the year look for you? Right now we’re at the top of the rollercoaster 🎢
I recently got a record player again (a portable one, as I shared recently on BringYourWorth.tv) and got one of my favorite albums: Al Jarreau’s Breaking Away. My kids, who never saw a record player play before, fell in love. We’ve been using it a lot.
One of my favorite lyrics is in Jarreau’s “Easy”:
Thinking that your hearts desire
Hungered for some Paris or Berlin
Caught between the snow and the fire
We want the fun, the excitement, and the passion. But what about the work in between, the brass tacks, and the reflection? The hot moments, the overnight successes, and the stories worth telling don’t happen without the pause.
The year mid-point is that pause ⏸️

The idea of powering down is tough. It’s not your imagination, either: The idea of powering down is tougher today than ever. As side hustlers, solopreneurs, and other non-traditional entrepreneurs, it’s always been easy for us to always be on. Now social media, apps, and online culture in general not only allows us to stay plugged into the Matrix, but encourages us to do so.
To paraphrase Tricia Hersey, even resting is a rebellious act.
And your pause doesn’t have to be doing a Yogi Bear and hibernating in your cave for a season. It could be going through your budget and seeing if you’re on task. It could be reconnecting with whom you serve to make sure you’re on point. It could be retrofitting old content, products, or services to make sure you’re up to standard.
I’m currently doing all three ☘️
On this week’s BringYourWorth.tv, catch the recorded episode recognizing the power of the pause.
We can be afraid to pause because we're running from something, we're running towards something, or we're just used to running. I break down how pausing builds success - and the best time to pause is today.
Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast ⏸️
